Walking and biking for forest protection

For the 7th year in a row, fun-walkers gathered in Tanay, Rizal to show their support for forest protection.

    The province of Rizal has commemorated Arbor Day, in the last seven years, through a fun walk to raise funds for forest rehabilitation.  This year, some 2,000 participants joined the activity.  During the event, a memorandum of agreement was signed among stakeholders who committed to implement the USAID-developed Lawin Forest and Biodiversity Protection system.Mayor Rex Manuel Tanjuatco of Tanay reiterated the city’s strong commitment to protect the remaining natural forest in the municipality, located in Barangay Sta. Ines-- a significant site since this was where Lawin was first implemented.

USAID Supports co-management of the Fuyot Spring Natural Park in Northern Sierra Madre region

The Ilangan Sanctuary, co-managed by the City of Ilagan, DENR Region 2, and the Fuyot Spring Natural Park management, generates income which is plowed back into forest protection activities.

In 2015, through the technical assistance of USAID’s Biodiversity and Watersheds Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystem Resilience (B+WISER) Program, the City of Ilagan, DENR Region 2, and the Fuyot Spring Natural Park (FSNP) renewed their co-management agreement for the 240-hectare Ilagan Sanctuary.
