USAID’s B+WISER program achievements in enhancing natural resources management recognized by local stakeholders

Over the past five years, DENR and USAID’s B+WISER have worked closely with local stakeholders in seven sites to conserve natural forests that provide important ecosystem services that benefit people and serve as habitat for various species of wild animals. Through a series of appreciation events held in August, program accomplishments in each of the seven sites were recognized by local stakeholders.

Achievements of USAID’s B+WISER Program appreciated in the Bicol Region

On August 17, Jeremy Gustafson, Director of USAID’s Environment Office, formally accepted a plaque of appreciation awarded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to USAID’s Biodiversity and Watersheds Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystem Resilience (B+WISER) Program in the Bicol Region. Engineer Bobby D. Sheen, Assistant Regional Director, handed over the plaque during an appreciation ceremony.

DENR reviews response protocols to address observed threats to natural forests

On August 2 nd , more than 60 high-ranking DENR field personnel composed of senior environmental law enforcement staff from the Biodiversity Management Bureau and staff from the Forest Management Bureau (FMB), met to review response protocols that were developed through a series of regional consultations with DENR field personnel led by USAID’s B+WISER Program and the FMB.
