Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy Cimatu on October 3 signed an Administrative Order officially adopting the Lawin Forest and Biodiversity Protection System as a national strategy for forest and biodiversity protection in the Philippines. This is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 11038 or the "Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018 (ENIPAS)" and RA No. 9147 or the "Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act". This makes the institutionalization of the Lawin system official and ensures regular and long term budget allocation for its nationwide implementation.
