A day after the formal turnover ceremony at the DENR Central Office, newly appointed Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu visited the Forest Management Bureau to familiarize himself with the Bureau’s mandates highlighting the role of watersheds as primary planning unit and the National Forest Protection Program.
A man with an innate love for the environment, Sec. Cimatu shared stories of the trees he planted in Antique where he was stationed in the 1970s. He hoped that when people see this initiative they will also start planting trees themselves. The trees are already fully grown when he visited the place during this year’s Palarong Pambansa and has a marker “Planted by Gen. Roy Cimatu” in it. He even quipped about putting a new marker with his name as DENR Secretary when he comes back again.
The briefing was attended by Undersecretary Demetrio Ignacio, Undersecretary Marlo Mendoza, Dir. Ma. Lourdes Ferrer and other DENR Central Office officials as well as members of FMB’s expanded executive committee. xxx
