The Forest Management Bureau (FMB) has initiated the third phase of training on the newly developed Forest Fire Danger Rating System (FDRS) in partnership with Orient Integrated Development Consultants, Inc. (OIDCI).
The FDRS is an online tool designed to predict potential forest fires by analyzing historical fire data, weather patterns, and fire behavior. This system is a crucial component of the Philippines’ commitment to the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution, which aims to enhance regional cooperation in fire prevention and management.
The two-day training is equipping DENR personnel from Regions VI, VII, and VIII with the knowledge and skills to utilize the FDRS effectively. By familiarizing field officers with the system’s features and functionalities, the FMB aims to strengthen the Department’s capacity to mitigate and monitor forest fires, safeguarding the country’s forests, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities.
