LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System Launching

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in partnership with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Biodiversity and Watersheds Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystem Resilience Program launched the LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System on March 10, 2016, Thursday, at Ilagan Sanctuary, Fuyot Spring National Park, City of Ilagan, Isabela.

Moreover, a Joint Forest Management Bureau (FMB) and Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) Technical Bulletin signing for this system was also signed during the said event to serve as guide in the national level implementation of LAWIN (click here to view and download). Series of training shall be conducted to capacitate forest guards and technicians on the use of the equipment and the system. This exemplifies the way of the protection system to be implemented on the national level.

The LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System integrated a science-based assessment, user-friendly and the use of innovative technology on the monitoring the status of the forest. Assist the environmental monitoring especially in the forest and biodiversity of highly conservation value areas. It allows the communities and environment authority to alleviate the status of the natural forest and also to properly manage the ecosystem against degradation and deforestation.
